Bilingual, Biliterate, Bicultural, By Choice!
“A new generation of learners who embrace and celebrate diversity, who strive to become the bridge between communities, and who are proud to be collaborative leaders of a 21st century workforce…”
Dear Education Advocate,
Bilingual. Biliterate. Bicultural. BY CHOICE.
This is the motto of Cesar Chavez Language Academy, a public charter school in Santa Rosa that embraces both the social justice mission of its namesake as well as the spirit of his life. İSí, se puede! We strive to educate children in the joy and passion for language, culture, diversity, and inclusivity. Our students are the workforce of the future, able to speak in multiple languages with a sense of their place in the larger world. They not only learn all the same required subjects as other public schools, but they do it in both English and Spanish.
Our school was founded in 2013 with just 66 TK/Kindergarten students. We now boast 440 students and a waiting list at every grade level. In the 2019-20 academic year, 60% of our students qualified for free and reduced lunch and 60% were English learners. To supplement our budget, we rely on creative fundraising and the generosity of the community. We have incredibly active and involved parents who are always willing to roll up their sleeves and work. Parents have led multiple campus-wide beautification projects and many more await us. But we cannot provide cultural events (Día de los Muertos, Cesar Chavez Day), after school clubs (Ballet Folklórico lessons), classroom supplies and enrichment (bilingual books, art supplies), and campus improvements (updated computers in the library, garden program) with today’s education budgets. We have several “big ticket” items we need to update the campus we share with Cook Middle School. We depend on our non-profit CCLA Foundation, parents, and community leaders to help support our mission. If you believe in creating a new generation of learners who embrace and celebrate diversity, who strive to become the bridge between communities, and who are proud to be collaborative leaders of a 21st century workforce, please consider donating to our Foundation.
Checks can be made out to the CCLA Foundation and mailed to 2480 Sebastopol Road, Santa Rosa, CA 95407, or donate through PayPal using the button below.
